Sally Jacobsen, the Northern Kentucky University professor who decided that her emotions should dictate what speech is allowable on campus, has been removed from her teaching duties and will retire at the end of the semester.

Interestingly, however, she is apparently still refusing to confirm or deny whether or not she was personally involved in destroying the display. The entire incident was an absolute disgrace, but that's the part that pisses me off the most. This self-righteous fool has the strength of her convictions right up to the point when it looks like serious consequences are pending - and not an inch further.

It may surprise no one to know that QA was raised by parents who
believe strongly in the values of civil disobedience, as a witness to injustice and to further strongly held moral beliefs.

QA's dad, a Viet vet decorated for bravery in combat (2 bronze stars), originally attempted to be classified as a contentious objector but was denied because at that time you could only get CO status if your religion was against war, and he was Catholic. He burnt his draft card, and was sentenced to go into the army. He went. He was eventually discharged with CO status, but only having been wounded in combat.

I was arrested for anti-war protest, and have spent most of my adult life as a community organizer working to improve conditions in the Bronx, where we continue to live. Although lucky enough never to have been required to spend more than an evening in jail, I was prepared to go.

One of QA's earliest memories is likely picketing a local bank that
was refusing to invest in the community from which it took it's
funds. A process called "red-lining" which was eventually out-lawed.

The key to this is that *if you commit civil disobediance, don't
expect a free pass. *You need to be prepared for the consequences.
*If you're not prepared don't do it. *

What's most telling in this case is not just that this woman isn't
willing to take the consequences, but that she seemed to have no
problem urging her students to do something that she is unwilling to
admit or deny.

What a lesson from someone who claims to be a teacher
